Abstract :
A new parametrization for a linear system is presented. This parametrization is the basis for two approaches to design an adaptive controller for pole placement. One approach is based on parameter estimation and requires sufficient excitation, while the other, the model reference adaptive pole placement, uses a reference model and an augmented error. It is shown that the two distinct approaches result in identical error terms.
