Abstract :
The cost of electricity with respect to gas or oil is high over most of the industrial world, and according to present forecasts, will remain so for at least the next decade. Despite this fact many sectors of the glass producers have turned away from traditional melting methods (utilising gas or oil) and have focused their attention on the use of electricity. The use of electric melting processes has had a particular impact in the field of lead-crystal production. Dramatic changes have occurred as old equipment and even older working practices have had to be abandoned. This revolution, that started in Europe, has now come to the United Kingdom
