Abstract :
The possibility of using the intensity technique to identify certain acoustic characteristics and measure the A-weighted sound power of transformers is discussed. Field measurements have been performed on several different transformers. Based on those measurements, the validity of the intensity technique and the different possibilities it offers are considered. Techniques using National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) near-field measurements are examined and compared to the intensity approach
