Abstract
A functional life test model is proposed which can represent the configurations, materials, and service stresses experienced in the windings of power transformers of any rating. The model is a practical size which would permit testing of multiple sets of units at reasonable cost. A unique pattern of winding connections minimizes the demands placed on test power supplies. Steps in a functional life test program have been suggested for consideration and discussion by the industry. To gain experience with the model and to investigate the effect of some major design variables on functional life, an initial set of exploratory tests has been recommended.
