Abstract
A fitting-oriented modification to the charge-simulation method in estimating electric fields is introduced which appreciably reduces computation time and cost. Multiple linear regression makes it possible to reduce the size of the simulating charge system without altering the selected potential boundary points. The technique suits irregularly shaped electrodes with pointed terminations. An attempt to standardize the end profile of high voltage electrodes is presented by matching the formation of the initial corona cloud of a given electrode to that of a standard hemi-spherically terminated electrode.
