Abstract :
A method has been developed, using Monte-Carlo techniques, to calculate the detection efficiency for 8Be particles from either solid or gaseous targets, using single detectors, binocular detectors, or position-sensitive detectors. As a demonstration of the method, the 24Mg(¿, 8Be)20Ne reaction was attempted at an alpha energy of 65 MeV. The efficiency calculation above is shown to be in general agreement with other similar work.
