Abstract :
The phase constitution and magnetic properties of ribbons in the system Nd0.15(Fe0.935-xMxB0.065 )0.85, where M=Nb, Si, and Ga, and 0⩽x ⩽0.06, have been investigated by X-ray diffraction, magnetic balance, and vibrating sample magnetometer measurements. The Curie temperature, Tc, is found to increase with the addition of Ga and Si, but Nb addition causes a small reduction in T c. The saturation magnetization displays a monotonic decrease with Ga and Nb substitution, and the intrinsic coercivity was increased significantly, to 19.1 kOe and 20.5 kOe, respectively, for x=0.06. The addition of Si reduces the intrinsic coercivity and enhances the saturation magnetization because of the presence of α-Fe
