Abstract :
A method of calculating the 3-D electromagnetic field mode using the finite-element method is presented. A variational finite-element method is derived from edge elements which are based on the ordinary formulation of isoparametric elements. The nondivergent condition of the electric or magnetic field can be taken into account in this edge element. The proposed program can solve eigenvalue problems directly because nonphysical spurious solutions can be eliminated as zero eigenvalue modes. This method is applied to the mode analysis of a magnetron cavity resonator. The resonant frequency and eigenvector are calculated successfully
