  • Abstract
A series of variable temperature AC magnetization measurements have been completed from 4.2 K up to T/sub c/ in magnetic fields up to 10 T on bulk PbMo/sub 6/S/sub 8/ (PMS). The properties of hot isostatically pressed (HIP´ed) PMS fabricated at a pressure of 2/spl times/10/sup 8/ N.m/sup -2/ (2000 bar) are compared with those of PMS fabricated at ambient pressure. After HIP´ing the PMS, the critical current density increased by more than a factor of 20 and T/sub c/ increased by 0.5 K. Using Bean´s critical state model, the magnetic measurements suggest that the HIP´ed sample has a critical current density of greater than 3/spl times/10/sup 8/ A.m/sup -2/ at 6 K, and 5 T.<>
