Abstract :
Scattering centers for magnetoelastic waves are known to be distributed along the as-quenched amorphous Fe-Si-B wire. Scattered waves were observed in as-quenched, annealed, and partially-annealed-after-drawn wires in order to study the structure and properties of the scattering centers. The effects of tensile stress and magnetic field applied to the sample wire on the scattered wave were also studied. Neither tensile stress nor magnetic field has an effect on the properties of the scattering centers. The annealing process does not remove the scattering centers, whereas the wire-drawing process effectively removes them. The observed waveforms show that the scattering centers are distributed along the wire axis with intervals on the order of millimeters. They are fluctuations of some elastic properties introduced in the wire during the quenching process
