Abstract :
Agglomeration effects have been produced in decalin-based magnetite and water-based lignosite magnetic liquids by the application of fields normal to a thin layer of the fluids. Their formation with time has been observed as a function of field and concentration. Conclusions about the stability of the liquids are drawn. It is concluded that field-induced destabilization is a complex phenomenon which involves the aggregation of elementary particles into what become, ultimately, visible macrochains. It is observed that an applied field is required to provoke destabilization
