Abstract :
A novel assembly method for laser-diode switch modules with a single-mode fibre pigtailed structure has been developed. A chip is aligned with fibres fixed in a package, using the chip itself as a detector. Very compact modules as small as 11*8*2.6 (mm) are realised, with a gain of 7 dB and an isolation of 39 dB observed in the fabricated device. This type of module has good thermal stability in the temperature range 0 to 50 degrees C.
