Abstract
A photograph showing the spatial pattern of visible emission from the sheath regions of an Ar dc discharge, using a partially covered cathode, demonstrates the behavior of the energetic electrons. Their beam-like character as well as their spreading and penetration into the negative glow are clearly demonstrated, as is the cathode glow due to heavy particle excitation
