            Abstract :
A vector magnetization model is introduced in which curling and rotation-in-unison modes for a prolate spheroid are used. It is confirmed that this model is able to determine the magnetic properties of two types of γ-Fe2O3 particulate media very well. Based on this model, read/write (R/W) simulation was conducted to clarify the influence of particle orientation and switching field distribution on the R/W characteristics of the media. The results indicate that an improvement in particle orientation is effective in increasing low-density output voltage, while narrowing the switching field distribution is effective in improving high-density R/W performance
