Abstract :
Medical science has made great strides in methods of treatment during this century. Physicians and surgeons rely heavily on a huge infrastructure of medical metrics to help in the diagnosis of disease and in the monitoring of their patient´s progress. Early in 1992, five research teams presented papers describing methods of measuring various characteristics of people at a colloquium held at the Institution of Electrical Engineers, Savoy Place, London. The author outlines these papers which covered a wide range of topics from brain measurements to solving problems by imitating the brain, from monitoring the size of leg ulcers to analysing the way one walks
