Abstract
Intelligent computer programs for assisting in the maintenance and operation of electricity distribution networks are now available. This article describes three of these: a program for checking the safety of proposed switching actions, a module for diagnosing high-voltage faults and a computer tool to help with the maintenance of protection equipment. Additionally, work enabling these types of intelligent systems to co-operate with each other is briefly described.
