Abstract :
The authors describe a field experiment to determine the feasibility of using a pulse reflection method for single-ended splice loss evaluation using an OTDR. Results show that although small errors are obtained in the splice measurement (directly related to the level of reflection caused by the OTDR) the method is reasonably accurate and practical for use on short-haul optical systems.
