Abstract :
This paper presents the design criteria, procedure and implementation of an AC-DC flyback switch mode power supply (SMPS) which provides 250 W rated average power to a big size colour television (CTV) set with a DVD player. A novel technique is developed to keep the stand-by power consumption of flyback SMPS under 1 W and a boost type of active power factor correction (Active PFC) preconverter is incorporated into the flyback SMPS in order to comply with the European CENELEC EN61000-2-3 electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standard, which deals with the input current harmonic values of equipments.
