Abstract :
In the first chapter of the book, the author puts forth his thesis that windup effects should be split into two primary categories: 1) controller windup and 2) plant windup. He also establishes the viewpoint that directionality changes due to input saturation in multi-input feedback loops should be given special attention. Some of the topics covered include: algorithms for preventing so-called controller windup; approaches for preventing so-called plant windup; the use of a model-based trajectory generator to keep the overall feedback signal from saturating; anti-windup in multi-input systems; rate saturation; the so-called "bumpless transfer" problem; and an Appendix dedicated to the design of observer-based linear controllers for linear systems. The central thesis of this book is clear, and provides a nice framework for the methods emphasized. The book contains many helpful examples that demonstrate the approaches and make them easy to emulate.
