Carrier phase independent timing recovery methods for VSB receivers

Abstract :
This paper proposes an alternative timing recovery method for VSB receivers. It employs a timing error detector which uses both in-phase and quadrature-phase component of received VSB signal and operates at twice of a symbol frequency. The proposed method shows the insensitivity to residual carrier phase offset contained in the signal, thus providing consistent performances regardless of carrier recovery status.
