Abstract :
We have developed a thin, slim speaker unit with little magnetic leakage by employing a new kind of sandwich-type magnetic circuit. The main features are the high rigidity of the diaphragm due to the use of a multi-rib construction and a planar voice coil with the coil placed flat on the diaphragm. By controlling the mode of resonances in the directions along the long and short axes, a slim shape is maintained while achieving wideband characteristics. We demonstrate examples of applying this speaker to flat, thin TV sets.
