Abstract
The wedge and strip anode is a conductive position sensitive anode which is capable of both high spatial resolution and good image linearity, and has the advantage that it is relatively easy to make. We have constructed a chevron microchannel plate detector for soft X-rays and EUV which incorporates the wedge and strip anode and it is shown that resolution of -40¿m has been achieved. Results using a high vacuum sealed tube version of this device which has an S20 photocathode for detection of visible light are presented. We also describe a novel multiwire proportional counter which uses a wedge and strip anode, to replace the more conventional crossed grid cathode sense planes, for position readout.
