Abstract :
A study was conducted to gain insight into and understanding of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC) Society through its journal, the IEEE Transactions on Systems Man, And Cybernetics (TSMC). The study focuses on publication-related data abstracted from the TSMC, as well as citation-related data on the TSMC and other comparable journals. Based on a detailed analysis of the bibliographic data, several critical policy issues are considered. While some of the policy recommendations seek to enhance the stature of the TSMC, it should be noted that the TSMC is in general doing quite well; it remains a healthy and relevant journal of recognized quality and international repute. Finally, it should be stated that the approach developed in this study contributes to establishing an effective methodology for understanding and revitalizing professional organizations through a careful analysis of their respective publications
