Reducing nonlinear distortion due to automatic-gain-control circuits

In many modern transistor radios there is substantial distortion with strong signals as a result of the sharp cutoff characteristics of variable-gain transistors. In this note, the problem is analysed. It is shown that the defect can be corrected using biased diodes as gain-control elements.
