This summer I have learned: how to dispose of bulky objects without the authorities objecting; how to get rid of the sort of smell that makes you gag when you enter a room, and how to get blood out of a mattress (you sprinkle the stain with vinegar, because the acetic acid breaks down the proteins, you rub in baking soda, which reacts with everything in the mattress to make a sortTHIS SUMMER I have learned: how to dispose of bulky objects without the authorities objecting; how to get rid of the sort of smell that makes you gag when you enter a room, and how to get blood out of a mattress (you sprinkle the stain with vinegar, because the acetic acid breaks down the proteins, you rub in baking soda, which reacts with everything in the mattress to make a sort of acidy soap, you then shove on some lemon juice, which binds with the iron, and you give it all a good old rub with salt, which is a good scrubber).
