Abstract :
The magnetic properties of cast and hot-rolled Pr17Fe 77.5B4 M1.5 (M=Cu, Ga, Ag, Al, In, and Pb) alloys were investigated in order to explore the role of additive elements in improving the magnetic properties in the Pr-Fe-B system. It is found that Ga and Ag additions have an effect similar to that of Cu in increasing the coercivity in both cast and hot-rolled specimens. Al and In additions do not have these positive effects, while the Pb addition deteriorates the magnetic properties and workability. The coercivity of the hot-rolled magnets containing Ga, Ag, or Cu can easily reach 10 kOe or greater. This is due to the grain refinement as well as the enhanced smoothing of grain boundaries
