Abstract :
The CERN 400 Gev Proton synchrotron (SPS) will be used as 20 GeV positron/electron injector of the Large Electron-Positron storage ring (LEP) under construction at CERN. The SPS will be fed with 3.5 GeV positrons/electrons from the CERN 28 GeV Proton Synchrotron (PS) which in turn receives the particles from a new pre-injector under construction. The latter consists of a 600 MeV storage ring acting as a buffer between a 600 MeV S-band linac cycling at 100 Hz and the slow-cycling synchrotrons; the positron source is a converter target downstream of a 200 MeV linac.
