Abstract :
Fusion welding of high-Tc superconducting ceramics via laser was explored. Superconducting BiSrCaCu2O y ceramics were welded by a CO2 laser in air. During the welding process, oxygen flow was blown into the laser melting zone. The beads as welded exhibited semiconducting properties and were transformed into the superconducting state by subsequent annealing treatment with a zero resistance temperature of 80 K. The beads have a similar stoichiometry to that of the base material as revealed by EDAX investigation. Using this technique, butt welds and lap welds were obtained
