Abstract :
In this paper, we investigate the effects of outdated channel state information (CSI) on an opportunistic relaying scheme (ORS) consisting of relay selection and data transmission phases. The outage probability and average symbol error rate (ASER) of the ORS are derived in a closed-form expression for an arbitrary link signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) when the CSIs in the source-relay and relay-destination links are outdated. We also analyze the diversity order and coding gain in terms of the outage probability and ASER. Analytical and numerical results show that when the CSIs in either the source-relay or relay-destination links are outdated, the diversity order is reduced to one. The overall performance of the ORS is mainly degraded by inaccurate CSI in the relay-destination link. Conversely, CSI accuracy in the source-relay link has a negligible effect on the performance of the ORS unless the CSI is perfect.
