Abstract :
The Sabre system was developed by IBM in the 1960s to handle reservations and seat inventory for American Airlines. System specification requirements included an unprecedented number of transactions, such as handling 83,000 daily phone calls. This look back at the project´s history highlights system problems and achievements.
