  • Abstract
    Miniature loops in tapered single-mode fibre are low-loss despite the severe deformation of the modal fields in the bend. This is because the changes of curvature in real loops are gradual enough to be adiabatic. Further miniaturisation should be possible by decreasing the taper diameter.
