Abstract :
The resolution of fast radiation density measurement systems built up with X-ray tubes and fast ionization-chambers (rise-time: 1-10ms) is limited by mechanically induced interferences during the time of measurement. In some applications (for example blow-down experiments) this mechanical load is unavoidable because the measurement system is directly mounted on the accelerated parts of the measurement equipment. Because of the mechanical complicated inner structure of the electrode configuration in fast ionization-chambers the measurement current is superimposed by disturbing displacement currents. The electrode configuration can be treated as a more or less coupled system of mechanical resonators. The paper describes the implementation of an ionization-chamber with a minimum of mechanical induced interferences by the right choice of the materials, dimensions and attachments of a multi-electrode plate-configuration.
