Effect of a pure time delay on the optimising regulation of a process consisting of a first order lag following the static characteristic

The algorithm for the optimising regulation of a process consisting of a first order lag following the static characteristic breaks down in the presence of a pure time delay. A method of overcoming this difficulty is given which has been verified by an analogue-computer study.
