Abstract :
A new variance-based scheme is proposed to speed up fractal encoding. Experimental results on ten test images with different complexities show that encoding time can be significantly reduced, while decoded image quality measured by peak-signal-to-noise-ratio is on average better than that using the corresponding baseline fractal coding.
