Abstract :
In this paper, the magnetic force acting on the currents induced in a nonmagnetic ring of finite cross section, taking into account the presence of eddy currents, is determined by the use of Laplace´s force formula. The required magnetic flux and current densities are obtained from vector potential values evaluated by a hybrid finite-element/boundary-element method. The magnetic flux density is found from the potentials using a linear operator capable of yielding accurate results notwithstanding the discrete nature of the problem. Equivalent results obtained by the virtual-work principle are presented for comparison
