Letter to the editor

I recently joined AESS, in part, out of selfish self-interest and for career development reasons. Aerospace systems, the technology of packaging, applications design, development, and testing, have unique and demonstrable use in other areas of systems engineering and scientific research. I read a letter of a subscriber who expressed a heartened concern about how this publication may not be reaching as wide an audience as it could. I thought about that carefully, then proceeded to read the issue cover-to-cover. I understand the concerns expressed, but I also see this journal and other journals, transactions, and publications of societies such as the IEEE, as not having the function of popularizing one technical, scientific, or engineering discipline.
