Abstract
In this paper, the importance of, and key design issues for, backup control centers (BCC) in maintaining power system reliability are discussed. It also highlights the importance of the key factors incorporated into the initial design studies of the BCC of the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) and may help other utilities that might want to implement a similar backup facility at their premises.
