Abstract :
In certain partial-response (PR) systems, such as the magnetic recording channel, both the timing information as well as the noise statistics are data dependent. In this paper, a class of synchronizers is proposed that incorporates the effect of these two data dependencies. The resulting synchronization algorithm is simplified to trade performance with complexity. Simulation results show that certain channel models exhibit significant performance improvement by the use of such synchronizers.
