Beam shaping for optimum illumination patterns

A method is given for the synthesis of shaped radiation patterns from circular apertures divided into zones of varying width. The radiation function is transformed into an associated function which can be described by a finite Fourier-Bessel series, the coefficients of which give the amplitudes required for each zone.
