Abstract :
The design and fabrication of compact grating couplers in InP-membrane waveguides for coupling to standard singlemode fibre is presented. A wafer bonding technique is applied to achieve a high vertical index contrast. Coupling efficiencies of 30% were measured on first fabricated couplers.
