Abstract :
Monolithic arrays of binary-weighted MOS capacitors may be used in nonlinear as well as linear A/D and D/A converters. A proposed design for a standard 15-segment approximation to the μ255 law coder for pulse-code modulation (PCM) telephony is presented here. Analysis and simulation suggest that a per-channel voice coder should be realizable in a single MOS chip. The decoder is similar to the coder.
