Abstract :
A preprocessing method for the discrete cosine transform (DCT) in interframe coding schemes is proposed based on an observation that the statistical characteristic of block difference is quite different from that of ordinary pictures. This method makes block difference more suitable for DCTs, and significantly reduces the reconstruction errors of typical image sequences.
