Abstract
The phenomenal growth rate in track densities for magnetic hard disk drive systems poses significant challenges to the actuator control system. This paper investigates the problems that will be faced by the control engineer in pursuit of track densities that are significantly higher than available in existing disk drive products. Conditions on position sensing noise, control bandwidths and actuator resonances are projected in order to achieve the desired track densities
