Abstract :
10 Gbit/s unrepeatered transmission is demonstrated over a symmetrical 337 km mixed fibre system. NRZ data with clock prechirp enables a +22.2 dBm launch power to be utilised. A low noise receiver is realised with a 980 nm pumped preamplifier Power budget improvement is obtained by Raman gain in the system fibre and dispersion compensation at the receiver. System length is increased to 412 km with the addition of remote optically pumped post- and preamplifiers
