Abstract
This paper proposes a novel dual-layer electrode configuration for the liquid crystal compensator design. It has the feature of two conducting transparent electrode layers separated by a dielectric insulation layer, which sustains the electric isolation. With the design, the adjacent electrodes with almost no gap width could be performed. The proposed device was fabricated and verified. Experimental results show the expected feature. It could effectively reduce the fringe field effect of the compensator and provide the optical compensation of the focusing spot of an optical pickup head.
