Abstract
We hear a lot about the digital divide - the gulf between rich and poor ut it is a hard thing to quantify, especially when it comes to the Internet. The International Telecommunication Union calculated a ranking for each of the 178 nations in the world, which it called the digital access index (DAI), determined by such factors as education, the affordability of Internet access, and the proportion of Internet users with high-speed connections. This article details the results of these calculations and the methodology behind their generation.
