Abstract
At a turning point in the development of electricity generating systems, there is renewed interest in comparative studies of the risks associated with complete fuel cycles as an aid for decision makers. The author describes some of the contemporary issues which comparative health risk analysis faces in the context of the fossil, nuclear and renewable options, including consideration of occupational and public risks, routine operational risks, and severe accidents.
