Abstract
It is argued that building a national or regional information infrastructure is simply the entry fee for participation in the global economy and the information society of the 21st century. It is not enough for a nation´s leading companies to participate by building their own private information networks. First-rank nations will see to it that homes, schools, and small businesses as well as large corporations have access to the global information system. The author discusses his vision of global information networking and the infrastructure needed to support his vision. The global information network would support personal nomadic information access and communications, information malls, and enterprise integration.<>
