Abstract :
A femtosecond figure of eight fibre laser has been constructed incorporating a dispersion decreasing (tapered) fibre within the nonlinear loop to give rise to intensity (phase) dependent switching and adiabatic compression. With system optimisation, it should be possible to achieve femtosecond operation without spectral sideband generation
