Abstract :
The microinstruction execution unit (MEU), which is one of two chips that implement a 32-bit VLSI object-oriented general data processor, is described. A functional overview of the MEU is given and important design tradeoffs are described, including some of the motivations for the particular partitioning of the functions between the two chips. Finally details of circuit implementation are described for some of the more interesting and important circuits on the chip.
